CT Audio designs largest line array in the companies’ history for the Herbalife Mexico Extravaganza.

Herbalife is one of the largest multi level marketing companies in the world doing business in over 75 countries. For over 10 years Creative Technology has been providing audio visual staging solutions for Herbalife events all over the world. In addition to a full range of display technology, CT’s audio department has taken on the tremendous task of designing and implementing the sound systems for these huge events, which can have as many as 30,000 attendees. With the purchase of the L-Acoustics KUDO, dV-DOSC, Meyer M1D and Melody speakers, CT Audio was able to design and install the largest line array in the companies’ history for the Herbalife Mexico Extravaganza this past September.

The Mexico City event posed numerous challenges for audio. For this event, seating was in the round and with an estimated audience size of 20,000 people, getting even coverage to every attendee proved to be a challenge. The venue was a large metal dome, which increased the decay time of a sound to almost 6 seconds. This made intelligibility low. Due to the many different seating areas, audio and projection had to work together so we could fly the screens and the P.A. in a limited space around the stage. This made pre-planning and accuracy essential. By using L’Acoustic’s Sound vision to model the venue, we were able to accurately predict just how the proposed system would perform.

To make matters more complex, Herbalife events are corporate training programs during the day and music performances in the evening. This requires that the PA have enough power for the music, and still work as a distributed system for the corporate portion. To achieve this, we used (36) KUDO speakers for the main arrays, flying (18) per side. The KUDOs gave us the power needed for the musical performances and the coverage that was needed for the meeting during the day. For the side and rear fills we utilized dV-DOSC speakers, (12) per side. These were chosen because the dV’s have a 120o horizontal coverage allowing maximum overlap of the area from centralized point. For the rear fills, we hung two arrays of (6) boxes of dV-DOSC. To properly handle the 350 ft. total throw distance from downstage to the back of the venue, we incorporated delay, 140’ from down stage, two arrays of (8) dV-DOSC speakers on either side of the delay screens.
