Don't Forget the Lyrics
Following the success of the hit US series “Don’t Forget the Lyrics”, the 12 part karaoke style game show lands in the UK, presented by Shane Richie and filmed at The London Studios. It features contestants performing in front of a live band and attempting to win £250,000 by singing the missing lyrics from 10 songs.
The hit show, just commissioned for its 3rd series in the US has been a big hit on the Fox Network with production company RDF USA.. Although the UK version is slightly different in format it was essential to replicate the grandeur of the US version.
Patrick Doherty was asked to Production Design the UK version of “Don’t Forget the Lyrics.” Doherty comments “With the UK show, the main brief was to enhance and improve the look of the US version and create a strong UK identity. We wanted to give the show a real event feel and create plenty of atmosphere in the studio.”
The size of the US production and studio space available was far greater than the equivalent UK version. This was a huge factor to consider when visualising the design. Doherty comments “One of the ways we overcame this was by working closely with Creative Technology to use different products to suit the tighter surroundings. Due to CT’s large inventory of stock, we were able to test and explore numerous technological options. In a short period of time, we were able to find the best solution.”
The end result saw the existing MiPIX banner screens change to MiTRIX, raising the resolution two fold and giving the show a better canvas for content and closer camera shots. In addition, a Barco FLM 18k projector for the main lyric screen was added.
The end result looked fantastic, and the show was an overwhelming success. The time put into researching the alternative products was invaluable and created a unique twist for the UK audience.
